02

Data stored locally

TacticBar stores the information needed to remember your experience, including the current puzzle, puzzle results, ratings and themes, streaks, hint and mistake counts, difficulty preference, and whether a puzzle result has already been submitted to Lichess.

This information is stored in TacticBar’s sandboxed app container on your Mac. It is not uploaded to a TacticBar server.

03

Optional Lichess connection

TacticBar can be used without connecting Lichess. If you choose to connect, authentication happens through Lichess using the puzzle:read and puzzle:write permissions. TacticBar never receives your Lichess password.

The app communicates directly with Lichess to request puzzles, read your username, puzzle rating and recent puzzle activity, and submit puzzle outcomes to your Lichess account. Your OAuth access token is stored in the macOS Keychain. Your cached username and puzzle rating are stored locally in the app container.

Information sent to Lichess is handled under the Lichess privacy policy. TacticBar is an independent application and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Lichess.

This website

Tacticbar.com does not use analytics, advertising scripts, tracking pixels, or marketing cookies. The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which may process standard technical request information such as IP address, browser details, and request timestamps to operate and protect the service. Cloudflare’s handling of that information is described in its own privacy policy.

05

Your choices

You can use TacticBar without a Lichess account. Choosing “Disconnect Lichess” removes the OAuth token from Keychain and clears the locally cached Lichess username and rating. Local training history and the record used to prevent duplicate Lichess submissions remain on your Mac.

To remove all TacticBar data, delete its app container at ~/Library/Containers/com.simedw.SmootherBar. You can also revoke TacticBar’s access from your Lichess account settings.

06

Changes to this policy

If TacticBar’s data practices change, this page will be updated and the effective date above will change. Material changes will also be reflected in the App Store privacy disclosure.
